Hmmm... I've often wondered about this. People claim its just a muscle that pumps blood - and yet when we are sad, heartbroken or really affected by something we feel an ache in our hearts.

But something must explain some of the pain I've felt in my heart in the past or the happiness I feel right now knowing that someone out there loves me <3

Most people would say it is just a blood-pumping organ in your chest. Emotions are tied to your brain; physical actions based on psychological messages carried in the form of feelings and thoughts.
However, it could be plausible. Even though somewhat illogical (and HIGHLY unlikely).

Emotions can effect your heart since your entire physical and mental being are connected to your brain and your brain creates emotion then your heart can pump blood differnetly or even have trama. Well I think so XD

What does your heart do whenever you are around somebody you really like or your boyfriend/girlfriend?
